Jubilee's "new things":
- She is talking so much more! I can't possibly write every new word or phrase that she's learned lately, but a few of them are: there it is, it is..., feet, butt, stop it--mostly in reference to Jed bugging her, ... is coming, window, sleep, bath, nap, meow, woof-woof, bird, chicken, I love you, more.
- When she wakes up in the morning, she says, "Daddy, daddy, daddy..." This is because Daddy takes care of her every morning while Mommy gets ready for work. The routine is Mommy gets baby up--gives her milk, gets her dressed, or picks out her clothes, changes her diaper, then hands her off to Daddy who cuddles with her while watching Blues Clues.
- Milk in a cup--we have officially given up the bottle. It was becoming a problem. It wasn't the milk she wanted, it was the nipple. If she didn't get the nipple immediately after picking her up from the babysitter after work, she would have a temper tantrum. This was a problem, especially if I had to go run errands with her. So Mike and I decided to take away the bottle at all times except the morning. This went on for about a month, then yesterday, we officially started her on milk in a cup in the morning. I had gone to Target earlier in the week and bought some cute little baby-hand-size see-though cups for her to use. She has a few already, but now she has a lot. This probably isn't necessary, but it makes me feel better anyway... The first morning, she was very unhappy. She threw her little messy-hair head down on the couch repeatedly and cried, refusing her milk-in-the-cup. She pulled multiple fake-outs: motioning that she wanted the milk, then upon receiving it, refusing it and crying. This went on for about an hour before she finally gave in and drank the milk. Then it was over. This morning when Daddy gave her the milk-in-a-cup, she didn't shed a tear. Whew! Glad that one's over with!
- She increasingly likes to help Mommy and Daddy do the chores. If I clean the floor, she wants to clean to. If I wipe something up, she wants to wipe it up, too. If I do the laundry, she want to help put the clothes in the dryer and take them out. Most of the time her helping is not a problem except with her "new thing" of wanting to help do the dishes. Every time someone turns the water on in the sink, she rushes over, pulls the chair to the sink, stands on it and "helps out". Our sink is centered in a bar so that it is possible to turn the water faucet all the way around and run water on the kitchen floor. Yes, this is a lame design, and thus has caused several minor flooding incidents. But at least Jubilee likes to help out and clean up the water, that is when she's not having a temper-tantrum from having been forced to turn the water off and get off the chair.
- Temper tantrum: as Jubi approaches her second birthday, which is less than a month away, the temper tantrums increase. Mike reports that she is working her way up to Alyssa level tantrums, but Alyssa still wins out over all. Jubi cries, throws her self on the floor--ever so carefully as to not hurt her head (unlike Jed when he was a baby)--then kicks her feet, rolls around a little. Sometimes she puts her hand in her mouth and wails like this: YAAAH yaaah YAAAH yaaah YAAAH yaaah, and so forth. When she really want to let you know that she's mad, she just looks at you, opens her mouth as wide as possible and lets out a short, deliberately loud burst of scream: AAAAHHH! While she does this, her head shakes slightly from the physical effort. I've learned that if I look away and don't make eye contact, she usually will stop with that.
- Babies: she's very into her dolls now. She has been developing an interest in her dolls since about Christmas time. I'm wondering if her cousin Violet had anything to do with this, or if it's just a girl thing. Jubi, like V, likes to put all her babies down for a nap all over the house. She takes her dolls--this includes all stuffed animals, and lays them face-down on the floor. Then she covers them with a "kiki" (blanket). Some times she will take her favorite baby and place all her kiki's on her. This takes a while as she had to lay the kiki's out perfectly. She covers the babies so that they are completely covered. At times our house looks like a pink fuzzy mine field with small square lumps laid out in regular intervals throughout the house. This is different from Little V, who usually lays out her babies in a straight line.
